Description of the operation
Gastric Pacing(GP) consists of an eletrical stimulus of the gastric wall and it is the least invasive operation for the treatment of obesity.
The system consists of a stimulator that is implanted into the abdominal wall and of an electic wire with an electrode that is connected between the muscles of the stomach walls.
The stimulator communicates with the programming device which it manages.
Gastric pacing modifies the stomach's motor activity and provokes a diminution of appetite.
For whom it is required
It is required by patients who have a BMI greater than 34 - 35 and for patients with an especially high operatory risk or who desire a minimally invasive operation that is completely reversible. No disturbances in feeding behaviour must be present.
The results
It is a new concept system: the results so far available indicate a slimming level that varies considerably from one patient to another, both in terms of rapidity and in terms of weight lost.
The greatest results are obtained combining a balanced diet specifically designed by a specialist.
Additionally the patient's full collaboration is fundamental.
The checks
The checks to be carried out after the gastric pacing implant are at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months; subsequently they become annual and are performed by the surgeon, medical dietician, and the company technician; the psychologist intervenes when necessary.
In the checking centre specialists may ask for blood sample tests so as to check for any nutritional shortages.
