The teaching activities
Since 2003, Dr Umberto Parini has been Director of the Special ACOI School (Scuola Speciale ACOI ) of Obesity Surgery.
The course are annual (length April - December).
The training method requires the Student's cultural and technical training in respect of obesity in its multiplicy of aspects: from theoretical and practical notions relating to all the techniques of bariatric surgery to the concept of multi-disciplinary teams as a means of managing the obese patient indispensible for the selection of patients, their total clinical diagnostic picture, the choice of intervention, evaluation of results and the follow up.
The training method provides an initial theoretical-training part, attendance at operating theatres of accredited Centres, experimental surgery laboratoties and lessons by means of videosurgery.
Aosta General Surgery is moreover the accredited Centre of the Special School of Laparoscopic and Mini-Invasive Surgery (ACOI School): the students of such a School may attend our Centre in the context of their training period.
Other teaching activity which is regularly carried out:
- practical advanced laparoscopic surgery training activity for Italian and foreign surgeons,
- practical training activity for Italian and foreign obesity surgeons,
- training placements for students and postgraduates of the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery,
- student placements for Degree Course in Nursing Sciences.

Videosurgery
Aosta's General Surgery has been engaged for many years on the Videosurgery front.
The team has collaborated with the making of over 50 scientific videos concerning pancreas open surgery, rectal, liver and portal hypertension, and laparoscopic surgery of the colon-rectum, obesity, hernia iatale and gastro-esophagus illnesses, illnesses of the liver and bile, esophagus, pancreas and esophagus, liver and pancreas, and abdominal urgencies.
Videosurgery activity is accompanied by a strong congressual activity at the national and international level. We remember participation in congresses in Italy , France , Switzerland , Spain Greece, Russia , Portugal , Lebanon , Egypt , Syria , Jordan , Saudia Arabia , Pakistan , Argentina and Paraguay .
It obtained moreover 1 st prize at the National Videosurgery Congress ( Congresso Nazionale di Videochirurgia) in the year 2000 - with the work "Laparoscopic rectal surgery " ( "La chirurgia del retto laparoscopica ") and the 1 st prize at the same National Videosurgery Congress in Florence in 2002 - with the work - Intersphinteral Laparoscopic Resection for cancer of the rectum. "La resezione intersfinterica laparoscopica per ca retto".
